Welcome Letter

September 2024

Dear Room 6 Families,

Welcome to first grade! I am anticipating a year full of exploring, learning, making new friends, and of course, lots of fun! I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with you and your child. Our first days of school will be spent learning the rules and routines of our classroom, getting organized, and participating in Getting to Know You activities.

I have many goals this year. My first goal is to help your child feel secure and happy in school. Reducing anxiety and building confidence will be a priority. Once this is achieved, I can help your child reach his or her full potential and become academically and socially successful in school.

Class rules will be discussed on a regular basis. Your child is expected to follow the classroom and school rules. They are also encouraged and expected to treat adults and peers with respect. It is my practice to address mild discipline issues at school. I will contact you if your child is having recurring incidents. If you have not heard from me, you can assume that your child is following the class and school rules most of the time. However, if you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to share them with me.

Lunch will be at 11:55 daily. Special begins at 12:20. Recess is at 1:05.

Our specials are listed below. I will have your child write the following day’s special in the Robertsville Agenda. This way your child will be prepared for that special.

Monday – Music

Tuesday – Health

Wednesday – Art

Thursday – Media/Tech (Library)

Friday – Gym

Library books should be returned on Thursdays. Wear sneakers to school on Tuesdays and Fridays.

We will have a snack in the afternoon. Please send in one small, healthy snack and a drink. If your child is bringing lunch to school, please make sure he or she knows what to eat for lunch and what to save for a snack.

Please send the following items with your child on the first day. Note that some of these supplies are teacher specific (*) and are not included in the school supply box purchased through the PTO.

  •  1 soft, nylon, large 3 hole punched pencil bag (not plastic, not a box) *
  •  1 Mead primary notebook *
  •  1 Mead primary journal (These books have special lines for first grade) *
  •  1 deck of playing cards (for math activities) *
  • 3 pens (fun colors your child would like to use for special writing activities)
  • 4 thin, black Expo dry erase markers
  • 1 pair of scissors (blunt)
  • 1 highlighter
  • 4 large glue sticks
  • 3 boxes of crayons (no more than 24 count)
  • Headphones (not earbuds, inexpensive, in a gallon-size Ziploc bag labeled with your child’s name)
  • 1 box of tissues
  • Please take everything out of the packaging (except the crayons) and label everything with your child’s name. Do not send large boxes of crayons, markers, colored pencils, pencil sharpeners, erasers, or toys to school.

The Robertsville Agenda will be distributed on the first day of school.

We are very fortunate to have special education teacher, Ms. Collins, joining us this year.

I hope you find the information in this letter helpful. I will be going into more detail about our routines, curriculum, and expectations on Back to School Night, which is scheduled for September 16th, at 7:00. I hope you will attend. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. The best way to contact me is via email. My email address at school is [email protected].  I check this email throughout the day.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Sincerely,

Ms. Denora
